Brooklyn Scouts

This troop offers all four youth sections, ages 4-17years:
ChipmunkScurry (Younger siblings ages 2-Pre-k)
Otter Raft (Grades K-2)
Timberwolf Pack (Grades 3-5)
Pathfinder (Grades 6-12)

Sections meet two Thursdays per month, west side of Prospect Park. Please note that most hikes, fundraisers and camping trips are during weekends and holiday breaks.

Activities by section are separate, with a handful of events being the entire Troop (all sections) held together. Once a child reaches Timberwolf and Pathfinder, parents are no longer required to attend campouts. However car pool drivers and chaperones for day activities are heavily depended upon, and each parent is required to maintain a volunteer position within the Troop, contact your troop or section leader.

Our Flagship Park Slope based group was founded December 2012 as 5th Brooklyn is now 5th Prospect Park. Named after Prospect Park, opened in 1867 was designed by Olmsted and Faux, the architects behind Central Park. Prospect Park is 526 acres of trees and fields, waterways, paths, ballfields and Brooklyn’s only forest. Visited by more than 8 million people each year, it is a center of social activity and recreation for both Brooklynites and guests. We are honored to wear the name “Prospect Park” on our uniforms.

This troop offers two youth sections:

Our Fort Greene based group, established in 2016, is 67th Wallabout Bay. Named for the body of water where the Brooklyn Navy Yard sits. The name of this curved bay on the western end of "Lang Eylandt" (Long Island) comes from the Dutch "Waal bocht", which means "Walloons' Bend", named for its first European settlers: the Walloons. The first ferry from Brooklyn to Lower Manhattan was operated from here in 1637.

The majority color of the necker is navy blue to represent the water of the bay. 3 thin strips of grey, white and green reflect the buildings, sky and nature that form the namesake area today.

Our Windsor Terrace based group was founded in 2017. Named after the 177-foot-high hill on the Southern end of Prospect Park. At the bottom you'll find a monument erected to the memory of the Maryland 400, a company of American troops who held the hill while Washington's army retreated during the Battle of Brooklyn in 1776.

This troop offers all four youth sections, ages 2-17 years:

The 234th Stuy Rangers make their home in and around Herbert Von King Park. We hold our meetings there, we volunteer to keep it clean, and we use it to learn about community, service, and friendship. Chipmunks meet every first and third Saturday morning. Older sections meet every first and third Tuesday evening. We also take day hikes on the weekends and multiple campouts every year!

The 234th is a family-oriented community. However, after their children reach Timberwolf, parents are not required to be present for meetings or weekend activities.

The necker majority colors are dark green represents the nature of the surrounding Prospect Park with a thin band of navy and light blue representing the view of all the water ways that can be seen from the top of the hill on a clear day.

We started the 234th in 2018 to provide a way for Bed-Stuy kids to learn about the outdoors, about community service, and about their neighborhood. We work closely with the other troops in Brooklyn, but we never forget that Bed-Stuy is our home!

The necker main color is medium green with thin white stripes of white, yellow and navy blue. These represent the colors of the surrounding area: green for nature, navy blue for the water, yellow and white the surrounding landscape.

Sections meet 2 Wednesdays per month at the southern end of Prospect Park (during Spring and Fall) and at the Flatbush Tompkins Congregational church (during winter). Please note that most hikes, fundraisers and camping trips are during weekends and holiday breaks.

The 89th Flatbush troop was founded in 2017. So named from woods (“vlak” in Dutch) that grew on the relatively flat lands. During the 17th century, The Village of Flatbush was the center of life for what is now called Brooklyn containing one of the oldest churches, high schools and first highway in New York City.

The necker majority color is turquoise, with thin band of yellow and navy blue referencing the colors of the original flag of the Borough of Brooklyn.

Our troop was founded in 2022 when two smaller troops, 89th Flatbush and 1213th Windsor Terrace combined. Our troop includes the members, traditions, and enthusiasm of both original troops in one! Fun fact: 651 was selected as the new troop number because it is the average of numbers 1213 and 89!

This group is open to all registered BPSA scouts in Brooklyn 18 year old and over.

The Rover Crew holds a regularly scheduled meeting one weekday every month with service projects, events and outdoor excursions on weekends and holidays.

Please Note: Membership in the 718th does not substitute for membership in another troop. We encourage all Rovers to also join their local troop so they may participate in all-ages activities as well as Rover crew specific events.

651st Greenwood serves Brooklyn neighborhoods south and southwest of Prospect Park. Our current membership includes families from Ditmas Park, East Flatbush, Flatbush, Kensington, Prospect Lefferts Gardens, South Slope, and Windsor Terrace.

Sections meet every other Sunday from September-June near the south end of Prospect Park. Family camp occurs twice a year over Indigenous People's Day Weekend in October and Memorial Day Weekend in May. Timberwolves and Pathfinders participate in additional camping trips. Please note that most hikes, fundraisers and camping trips are during weekends and holiday breaks.
